Involvement in the legal system can feel overwhelming, confusing, and stressful. Court-ordered services often require navigating complex expectations, timelines, and documentation requirements.

Jeanette Barich, LCSW, LAC, is a Full Operating Level Colorado DVOMB-Approved Provider with over a decade of experience providing court-involved domestic violence and forensic evaluation services.

Her role is to provide objective, standards-compliant assessment and treatment services while supporting individuals in understanding expectations and working toward meaningful change.

Evaluations

Evaluations are often the first step in civil or criminal matters. They assist attorneys, courts, probation departments, and other providers by identifying individualized needs, risk factors, strengths, and treatment recommendations.

All domestic violence-related evaluations are conducted in accordance with Colorado Domestic Violence Offender Management Board (DVOMB) Standards and best practices:

  • Required mental health screening instruments
  • Substance use screening. Assessment if needed
  • Risk assessment measures
  • Trauma screening
  • A structured clinical interview (approximately two hours)
  • Collateral review
  • A comprehensive written report for court or referral source

If additional concerns are identified by the court or counsel, these can be discussed during consultation to determine whether further assessment is appropriate, such as substance use or mental health.

Treatment Services

When treatment is court-ordered, the process focuses on accountability, behavioral change, and risk reduction while also incorporating appropriate individualized goals.

VCS offers individualized court-mandated treatment services when agreed upon:

  • Domestic Violence Treatment (DVOMB-compliant)
  • Substance Use Treatment
  • Mental Health Treatment
  • Integrated services as clinically indicated

While legal accountability is central, treatment can also support personal growth, skill development, and long-term behavioral change.
